poop question

buffysmom Oct 16, 2003 09:02 PM

I'm new to skink ownership & have had Indigo, a BTS, for one week now. I'm feeding him a very diverse diet, based on James Wilson's post on this forum. Indy loves it! But, over the last 2 days his poop contains more chunks of stuff, corn kernals, meal worm bodies, etc & is not in one big chunk, but is scattered around the cage in smaller sections. Is anything wrong or is he just adjusting to a new diet?

It's also runnier & quite poopy-smelling, not like it was before. I'm putting fruit in his diet every day because he likes it. Maybe he's getting diareah from too much fruit?

Fruit does have a tendency to do this. I try to feed fruit as 10% or less of the diet. I'll increase that if there's a constipation problem and it never fails to do the trick.

That's what I was figuring, after all- it does it to us Thanks! Anyone else have a different opinion I should hear? I want to make sure I'm doing what's best for my little guy. Other than the poop, he seems quite healthy- good apetite, active, clear eyes, nose etc...

Cutting back on the fruit might solve the problem, but if it doesn't bringing a FRESH fecal sample to the vet to be checked for protozoal orgs, cysts and worm eggs would be a good idea, along with the BTS.
cheers, jess B
