Grandis vocalizations?

lizardhut42 Oct 16, 2003 09:50 PM

Has anyone else heard their grandis making those cool vocalizations? Two of my males were making noises at females today. They are both what I would call high colors (lots of red) and I haven't heard any of my other males (low colors) do that.

Its part of normal courtship and defense behaviour (somewhat sounds like content chickens). Both sexes can produce these sounds and I hear them from all of my adults. Juveniles usually do not vocalize that way, they may only squeek if grabbed.

I was aware of what I was hearing, I just have'nt heard it before. It was the most amazing sound. I just built a new block of cages and moved everybody into it so they all had to reestablish relationships, and talk about it. It was very interesting.

my male did once when my hand went near him in the tank. he wasn't too shy of me but i think i supprised him, though he didn't run away. he sounded like a bird. it was amazing!
