MY CAT

theredneckgal Oct 17, 2003 03:28 AM

Ok I know we are only supossed to post about lizzards in here but I know you guys and trust your advice. My wayward cat came home 3 days ago after being missing for almost 6 months. He is very very skinny! I called the vet and I am picking up a supplment (nutrients and vitamins) for him tomorrow. And the vet advised putting him back on kitten food for a few weeks. Which we have done. And to boot he is behind on his shoots due to his unwanted vacation. But the vet said to wait till he gets weight back on him. Any other ideas on how to help him get weight back on I am very very worried about him!!!!

wow thats odd...maybe he was stuck somewhere...
My two cats died within the past year, very sad, one was just OLD 18, and the other only 5 years old! We think she must have been sick, she was very thin always even though she ate like a pig and was the runt. The young ne just happened two weeks ago
Anyways to your question. I have always owned cats, and what i found, if you are feeding the normal cat food, make sure he/she ates all or most of what you gave her, then as extra i found that my cats couldnt resist having a little steak or chicken. Just make sure he/she eats all or most of the cat fod before doing this. If you just give table food they will not get the proper vitamins. So you can try that as extra food. You can also try as a treat whip cream, seriously, my cats loved this. I dont think that puts on weight but its jusr a treat. Other than that it is just a waiting game basically. He / She SHOULD fatten up enough for shots within a month or two i would think. Just keep the cat inside during that time so it wont catch anything.
My information is only based on my cats however and the one lived a long healthy life of 18.
The other was just sick we think, sad to say, but she loved her table food, she was like a dog.
Try that but make sure it still eats the regular food you are giving!!!!
Good luck!

If you're giving it dry food and want it to eat more, try opening a can of fish and pouring a little bit of the juices over all the food. My cats love it.
