A couple ornate questions?

tps22 Oct 17, 2003 08:52 AM

I have my first Uro.. An ornate uro, he's about 6-7 inches. I was wondering if anyone had an idea about his age. I am guesing about a year. At what age do they usually start to show there true colors. In addition, he has not been eating that great, I have had him a little under a week now. He will eat a little bit from my hands but I have not seen him eat on his own yet. I find dropings from him so he must be eating at some point. Should I still be soaking him every couple days in warm water to make sure he doesn't get dehydrated. I know its hard to answer but how much should I expect him to be eating a day? (a couple peas, a few pieces of greens etc...) He always has plenty available. I bought him from Doug Dix and am very pleased with his help and the uro. Just looking for more advice on my new Uro...
Thank you

Welcome, If you have asked doug dix then you probably have gotten the best answers that are offered. I will give you my advice however since you asked, I have never owned an ornate but, ususally they will show colors as they become sub adults maybe a year to 2 years. if it is a female it might just remain dull however. If it is a male i think it will show colors between that time. I would say 7 inches is juvi. maybe almost a year. If he is going to the bathroom yes he is eating you can count what you put in there and then re countto see how much he ate. about soaking DO NOT soak him that often. I soak my guys once every 3 monthes for a little bath. They will not dehydrate if you give thme moist greens. I would think as he is still young to eat a few greens every few days. i give mine food everyday, but they are two adults, and they dont even eat that much really.
Any more questions feel free and good luck!!!
