Well I can't give you a definite answer because I haven't found that question in any of the books, BUT!!! If a bird eats too much uncooked rice the rice then bloats up and kills the bird so it seems to me that with the way an iguanas digestion is that it would be really hard for it to digest uncooked rice. Like I said this is just an opinion but I always figure better safe that sorry!!

Read that message:

By the way, im asking this question not because i want to give raw rice to my igs but because i want to use brown rice as a substrate for my UROS.As the IGUANA FORUM is one of the best FORUM (everybody here knows A LOT about reptiles) i posted the question here!lol!

Well that may be. As I said it was an OPINION and I didn't find any PROOF on any of it. Thank you for setting me straight. That is why I also said someone else on here might have more information or experience with it.

Anyway sorry and I wasn't trying to say that I was right and anyone else especially you was wrong!!

oh and one other thing it was not the fear of "exploding birds" that I had read or seen it stated that if a bird eats much rice (not just small quantities) that when it then intakes the needed amount of water it does not "explode" but can become somewhat bloated making it fill full for longer than normal foods and keeping it from eating more of the nutritional foods it needs. I just thought I should poing that out but I do thank you for posting where it shows the fiction of "exploding birds" that does definitely seem ridiculous. But as I am no expert on rice and haven't used it I don't know if the bloating issue is a problem or not. Looking under the search engines I have seen many articles that say the same as the one your posted and only one that says it can be harmful because of bloating and fullness. Oh well if many say one thing its probably true I just figured it would get into the same issues as using bran or calcisand both of which many say they use with no problems while others have horror stories I don't use either and am not wanting to start an argument about those or this. Anyway sorry again and just wanted to clarify that I was not into believing "exploding bird" stories.

I hadn't read the article before I posted the last message.
