Baby Mali Questions...pics of setups?

Bammer Oct 17, 2003 09:12 AM

I found a place near me with baby Mali uromastyx. I was actually looking for older lizards so I could house them on sand. What is the age that they can be housed on playsand safely? and is there any other precaution for baby malis?

also, does anyone have any natural setups? I am trying to get some ideas.

Thanks in advance.

You can go to my website and see ym uromastyx tank, under enclosures, i will also post my old vision tank below. The most natural setup you could make for uros would be not only SAND, but also alot of rocks, also useful in keeping the nails a bit dull. You can make rock caves and rock basking spot, etc etc. its kinda fun to play around with the rocks As for what age i would say probably 8 inches long is very safe. Or once they start to show color etc, meaning subadult. Subadults i believe can be housed safely on sand. so probably a year to a year and a 1/2. for the meantime you can use repti carpet, just plain paper towels or bath towels. I liked using the bathtowels since you can bunch them up in places giving more 'hide' to it. Plus just put it in the washer and done.
Use good judgement though.
Many people here have great setups however. I really like the setup that the uro "Ra" has on here, their screenname is blanking in my head righ now.
Good luck!

the last one is buried pretty far in the forum so I thought I should post it again.
It took me a while to get everything Ra needed (I'm terribly guilty of spoiling him rotten ) and I made the background myself.

I haven't taken a picture of his tank recently, just bits and pieces depending on where Ra is posing at the time. He completely decimated 2 of the 3 cacti that were in there and he didn't really care for the half-log in there. I since removed the half-log (which gives him more running room now) and have added a hammock which he loves climbing up into to keep an eye on me (He often climbs into it when I'm walking down the hallway so he doesn't miss anything)

Good luck with your setup. Please post a pic so I can see what your natural setup looks like. I'm sure it'll turn out great
