hi everyone, my name is roy. i popped on here a few days ago to to lurk around and see what it was like, i liked it so yesterday i figured i would post.
i have 7 ferrets, hence the username, 1 pekingese and 1 chow chow, a siamese and a manx cat, a sugar glider, a rabbit, 4 toads, oracle my collared lizard, max my 5 ft iguana, and brazil a baby iguana . next weekend i will be taking in another iguana who needs a home.
i suffer from severe depression so i guess you could say my animals are my best therapy, they always know how to make me smile, and they keep me busy. as i dont come out of my house except to go to work and for needed things.
i love searching the internet for animal related info, the more you learn the better pet owner you become i also like to read, and i do write quiet a bit.
i work as a nurses assistant/ med tech i work with 11 people who have alzheimers disease, i have been working with them for over 3 years now , most of them know me either by face or name.
any way sorry this was so long

we laugh at ourselves, at others, and stick around long enough and your next, hahhahahah ! I commend you, taking care of people with that disease, the big A, is not easy, and I think would be quite depressing for anybody.
And yes I agree , critters make us happy in a small way each day. I have a mess of em also. They are non-judgemental, loving and kind, and just plain old don't care what quirks we have.

Those 7 ferrets will keep your spirits high ! *SMILE*

Post some pictues if you get a chance of your collared. I'm always picture taking, I pop in throughout the day, I study on here, and PLAY too, So join in and enjoy ! Eve

Hi Roy. Welcome to the collared forum, we always have a good time and enjoy sharing stories, questions, and comments!
I visit the Alzeimer's unit of a couple nursing homes in my area with an animal assisted therapy group. I have an English Springer Spaniel that LOVES to visit. Most of the residents recognize the dog and remmeber his name, but never remember me! LOL You must be a remarkable person for working with them, as all of the staff at our facilities are amazing.

Welcome to the forum!

Laura

thanx for all of that, yes seeing my patients can be depressing, but in the same way it can be very rewarding for me to know they know who i am, and i have one lady whom no knew could walk, but she will only walk for me, i love my job and most say it shows when i am with my patients as i dont treat them like they are work but i consider them to be my "people" and i spend alot of time socializing with them just trying to make them smile on an alzheimers unit a smile is worth so much.
i have one lady who calls me momma, she says i take care of her like i am her momma..... sometimes i even go to visit on my day off
