I was introduced to the crested gecko at a reptile show in Illinois last weekend. Not one to buy on the spur of the moment, I decided to do some research before purchasing. I have a brand new empty cage, which is a 10 gallon aquarium vertically oriented, with the front having sliding glass doors and a 4 inch screen section across the front over the door. Could this be suitable housing for a crested? I use bed a beast for some of my other reptiles as substrate, would this be ok? I would set it up with three sides covered with the aquarium background and those silk plants covering parts of the sides, a small hide and water dish on the ground, a piece of cork bark and/or driftwood angled high from climbing. I have crickets which are gut loaded and have repcal and herptivite for dusting and have read about the baby food without sugar. I have a reptile room that the ambient temperature is around 75-78 degrees. How does this sound? Any advice or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.
Pam

. I personally think a 10 gallon is a bit small for an adult gecko, it would be more suitable for a gargoyle. 15-20 gallons would really be more ideal if you can manage it, as they are pretty active at night. As far as substrate, I honestly prefer paper towels or butcher paper, but that’s your call. Many keepers use loose substrates without a problem, but I suggest using a bowl for feeding to help prevent any accidental ingestion. If you have any more q’s you have my e-mail
