I've read on several websites that turtles enjoy eating and benifit from the calcium egg shells provide. They say crush boiled egg shells before feeding them to turtles. The problem is that's as far as they go into it. I've tried several search engines to find more in depth info on this subject to no avail. Does anyone know anything about this? I have one hatchling (about 1-1.5 in.) so I know that I'd have crush them extremely small but do I boil only the egg shells? I know that RES's love egg whites too so should I boil the whole egg and give him the egg white and crushed shell? I'd appreciate any help that anyone could provide me on this matter, thanks.

I have also heard about the benefits of egg shells but I think that even crushed they may be a too tough/sharp for a baby slider instead you should stick to cuttlefish bone (inexpensive and can be found in the bird section of petstores)...you can crush the cuttlefish bone (remove sharp transparent parts) and your turtle will be attracted by the fishy smell. When your turtle is more mature you may add a vitamin supplement once a week (do not overdose)...look for powdered calcium (it should say low or no phosphorous).
