gabrielmtl Oct 17, 2003 12:01 PM

My female has been getting a bigger belly for the last week... i think she might have some eggs to lay, but im not sure. I did put a big container with dirt (at least 7 inches of it) and she did go on the dirt but she didnt do anything...

What is the best way for me to know if she is pregnent? Feel her belly?

she is 7 1/2 months old veild.

We probably need a little more info before you could say.... Has she been bred? How much/often are you feeding her? Have you been weighing her? You can tell by feeling her stomach, but it will take a bit of experience before you know what to think. Has she been wandering around her cage? Usually they'll stop eating, then start basking alot, then wander around the cage usually down low in the cage. Then they lay. All this happens in about 7-10 days. If you have easy access to a vet, you could get her X-Rayed for curiosity's sake. I still think that removing the female from her cage and putting her into a garbage can with 8-10 inches of moist potting soil is the best way to do it. It seems like lotsa people disagree with me though. I've got 2 females currently fighting for my egg laying container as we speak (I'm trying to make them take turns). But it works.

Thanks for the reply.

She is 7 months old, I feed her around 6-7 crix a day (mix of 2/4" and 3/4), and i skip friday and sunday. Mixed calcium and vitamin dusting once a week.

She is chiling at the bottom of her enclosure more then usuale. And she does indeed bask more then before.

She was never with a other male, but she might just have infertile eggs. I did feel her stomach and I indeed do not have enought experience, but it did feel a bit unusual.

Here's a pic of my female veiled chameleon, and this was taken about 8-10 days ago. She has stopped eating and will probably lay her second clutch (from a mating back in early July) within the next few days.

She looks great!

Mine doesnt have these colors at all... she has a nice green, but not like that.

Do they always or most of the time change color when gravid?

They don't always change colors when gravid. Actually, mine didn't much at all. Only when she saw the male while she was gravid she would turn that dark black with blue and yellow, but I think that only happened 1 time. She is usually a bright green color and when she gets a little excited she gets the colors you see in the pic.
