Seems to me, it's more trouble than it's worth....breeding your own crickets. I suspect the only time it would be beneficial is if you breed thousands of them...to ensure you always have plenty of the right sized crickets you need to feed your dragon.

We have 3 dragons here that go through about 1000-1200 crickets a week.
It's taken setting up a colony of 6500 or so just to give the newly hatched crickets time to grow large enough to replace the adults as they're eaten.

At least that's how it's worked so far.

This link is to cricketfood.com 's site on breeding and raising crickets with some nice detailed instructions and pictures.

BTW, this company is the only gutload we have used for over a year now and had no problems with ANY die off or problems with the dragons, all fecals are clear and the dragons are healthy

i had a little go at breeding and may start a colony to feed my beardies, the 2 times i have done it i have kept the eggs/newly hatched crix in my cupboard, its not very warm in there so it took a long time for eggs to hatch and the crix have grow very slowly, its getting near to the end of their life cycle and they are not really fully grown, next time i try i will keep them in a warmer place so they hatch and grow at a faster rate
