What do you think about this odd spot?

Sara2 Oct 17, 2003 12:42 PM

She has always had it, it just looks really strange. It is right in front of her back leg. Just a weird birthmark maybe?

I've seen that spot before. A lot of times, some lines of leos will have a tendency to "suck" all the melanin into one place - it's just a big dark blotch. It's actually sort of cool. I used to have a leo with a mark like that. A friend of mine has a male with this mark - and it's genetic, because he frequently passes on the trait to other leos.

I have no idea if this is true - but some breeders claim this is what you need to work toward a "paradox" albino - which is an albino with one "birthmark" of melanin.

Just what I heard.

Either way - it's a very cool looking tang. Nice and tangy. . . .

You can see it if you look really hard. It is behind the Leo on the right's rear leg, near the tail - but not touching the tail.

Can I dare hope he will pas this on...maybe in larger patches???

. . . that he would have a gecko with a certain color on it - maybe just a dab - and he would work with that particular color for the next couple generations with selective breeding, making it larger and larger.

That's a pretty cool spot. See what happens with some selective breeding. . .

Thanks for the info, I just thought it looked kinda weird acually kinda scared me when I first saw it. I had read about the paradox thing before but the spots i had seen didn,t seem as big and dark. But the one that was just posted below the spot look almost identical. It will be neat to see how many of her babies get those funny spots!

You can never have just one gecko. Actually it is almost impossible to have two

Lol, that is exactlly the same type of spot. I was kinda worried about it when i first saw it, but seeing more makes me feel better.

This is the spot when I first got him. Hardly noticable at 4 months.
