Decreased appetite, anyone?

asia2003 Oct 17, 2003 02:16 PM

Hi All,

Amigo's appetite has waned a little over the last few days. I am attributing it to the weather and the change of seasons maybe, as he is doing A LOT of digging, to the point where his mulch is all over the place!! hee hee. I plan to raise his temps within the next few weeks, to prevent hibernation, but what do you do about the appetite thing? Will he gain it back again, if I raise his temps now?

Thanks.

Leyla (& 24" meego)

it sounds like he is trying to hybernate... but i would think if you raise the temps he will gain his apetite back.

I have 3 argentine b&w's and only one has shown loss of appetite. My large male. They are all trying to hibernate and I will let them. I plan to try my luck at breeding though. If you arent then theres no need to be concerned about hibernating. The lack of appetite may or may not return with the increased heat. Your animals body may still tell it that its time to hibernate regardless of what you do. I think however that the length of time it thinks hibernation lasts will be shortened greatly and that is what you are after. Outside light may affect this greatly.I would not let the animal see the outside rise and fall of the sun if you plan to keep him out of hibernation.

Just a few thoughts =)
