Dusting mealworms!

keen1098 Oct 17, 2003 02:32 PM

How to you go about dusting mealworms. I roll them around in calcium powder or vitamin powder but it seems like it just falls off. What should i do to make sure shes(my gecko) getting proper supplementation?

I would feed the mealies from a dish. If you use seperate dishes you could alternate calcium and vits from one feeding to the next.

you could put them in a little zip lock bag and just shake em in there with a little bit of the supplement powder. what i do is, i put about 10 mealies in a dish, dash some of the supplement powder on them, and although some fall off the mealies after a while, my leo takes some in while he goes to eat it. also, there are one or two mealies who get really coated when i dash some of the powder...when they walk around it gets stuck on them and i get some really grayish white mealies because they're coated with it

Is there a dish of calcium powder in the leo's cage that it can lick if it needs more? I do the same as the other people and just put calcium in the same dish I put mealies into.

I really only do this when I'm feeding my dragon, since the leopards get their mealies in a dish with calcium as others have mentioned.

Put a bunch in your palm...put them up to your mouth...(picturing this?)...and blow some nice warm STEAM on them. Then quickly drop them into a bag or cup and do the shake-n-bake. You'll be amazed how well it sticks! (And your friends will be worried!)

My dragon eats them out of my hand that way (she's an adult, BTW, and I stick with just the white ones. Mealies aren't such a big problem for the leopards).
