What do you do when your hatchlong haven't eaten

herpfood Oct 17, 2003 02:41 PM

Hello all,
Ok, I have three baby hatchlings. All in decent setups. There all in seperate tanks, dechlorinated water, organic leaves of beets, spinach etc.

A small area of land, fluresent light, a heatlamp. Frequent water changes.

Guppies, beef heart, all that green stuff, worms!!!!!!!!!
What am I dong wrong????

I do believe each one though has had a nibble of a lettuce, maybe a guppy or two, maybe even some beff heart. Maybe I am over reacting, as I don't really know if they have eaten. I just haven't seen them eat. SOmetimes they'll attempt but like give up! I'm like common!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what would you do? IS it possible to forcefeed snappers as bad as it sounds?

Thanks
Herpfood

My hatchling snapper will not eat with the light on, much less if I'm watching. I bet they are eating. Good luck!

I would also try reptomin. In a lot of cases, they'll eat it over a lot of the other food you try. Also try crickets. They may seem a little too big for a hatchling snapper, but they can crunch into the cricket's soft shell and eat them without any problems.

If you've got all of that taken care of, the biggest part of getting a reluctant feeder to eat is to give it more time and don't "watch" them much. They start out pretty shy and don't like to be watched, but later on, they shouldn't have a problem with it.
