bath temperature

elykyllek Oct 17, 2003 02:48 PM

Lately I've been giving my uro a bath every second day or so, hes been moulting since I got him (3 weeks now or so). I'm not sure how long its supposed to last so I thought I'd give him a bath just in case.

Anyway my question to all of you is, what is the recommend bath temperature for a juvi (6-7 inches) mali uro? I've got a little water pan that I use, I only put water in to about shoulder level on him, but he still doesn't seem to like it (although he absolutely loves the blow drying afterwards), so I'm guessing that the water temperature is either too hot or to cold.

Thanks

You want the temp to be around 100 or 95 at the lowest. Like warm bath water, but not hot to the touch - or cool either. You don't want to cool them off too much. And you don't want to shock his system either - so make sure he's warm already. I have one of those infrared temp guns and I just point it at the water to get a temp, and viola - instant reading!

i thought if you give uros baths they get tail rot

Tail rot can occur from bathing if the moisture between the tail spikes is not completely dried. My uro gets a quick blow dry after her occasional bath. She likes the blow dry more than the bath.
