Help with WC black racer temps please

cito Oct 17, 2003 03:46 PM

What i have been doing for my 4.5 foot wild black racer is i had a 100 watt heat lamp on his 20 gallon cage for about 4-5 hours a day, turning it off whenever i felt was a good time. And at night i have nothing on. I was just wondering on some specifics what i should do during the day and night. What watt bulb? How long to have it on? What about night time, same thing?

I would think that before you got a snake you would research information about it. Do you plan on brumating the snake. What has it fed on so far? What kind of cage is it in? And have a set time for when you turn on the light and turn it off. Dont just do it "when you feel like it"

I didnt plan on getting it so i couldnt research before i caught it. Right now its in a 30 gallon long tank, its 4.5 feet long, and has eaten a frozen adult mouse. I think when i have the heat lamp on its around 81 degrees and when its off its around 60. So how long should i have it on? Should i have anything on at night?

60 is too low unless you're burmating your snake. If I were you I would just leave the light on and provide a very dark hiding spot in a corner. Don't put it under the light.
