Caught Mating Today Pic

BlueMtnLizards May 28, 2003 03:55 PM

Well, I thought I had 2 girls, at least that's what I purchased 18 months ago. Surprise!!

I'm assuming the black bearded, larger one is male.

Chances are its a male, but the possibility is there that it is not. I have proven females that have tried to fully mount and mate with another female. Their beard blackens just like a male, and they got them into position just like in your pic. Only thing was nothing came out from their vent area when doing it, where a male will have his "equipment",lol, come out. Chris

Prepare for many little bearded babies! One thing to say is when you do have the babies is make sure you there is food in there always or else they wilol bite off eachothers limbs/hands ect.

We have a picture of two females in that exact pose. Females can and will make black beards just like a male and if you only have two females one may take on the male role and do just like the one on top in your picture. But you will still have eggs even if both are female, just unfertile eggs.

This is not necessarily your case but before we got our first female we had copulation just like you show from two females and we got unfertile eggs. Later after we got a male we got fertile eggs from both females.

Good luck.

I'm hoping they're girls because I'm getting a nice adult male on Saturday. I planned to introduce one at a time, after he is settled/observed/parasite tested for a month. I've read to put one female into his terrarium at a time. Any tips would be appreciated, as this is my first time with beardies.
