Dragon freaking out

whasmack Oct 17, 2003 06:20 PM

I got my beardie a few days ago and it was really calm and docile. Yesterday I could not feed it crickets because I was out and did not have time to go to the store. I looked at him today, and he was freaking out. He was running around the cage, scratching at the glass, didn't want to be picked up. I got crickets and gave them to him today, which he gobbled right up. He still does not want to be picked up, just runs away from my hand.
What's wrong?

my dragon used to do that quite a bit when i first got him. he stills does it sometimes now and he's about 3 months old. just pick him up anyway, he shouldn't bite. he's probably just curious about whats on the other side of the glass.

It's really hard to try to pick him up. He just jumps out of my hands and I'm not going to grab onto him to get him out.

i'm having the same problem with my 3 month old BD. once i pick him up he seems fine and calm. after holding him for a while he seems to want to jump out of my hands and explore. hopefully he'll just get used to it and not want to run away.

If you spent most of your time locked up, wouldn't you want to walk around and see what the rest of the world looked like, any time you found yourself "out of jail"?

Dragons are curious animals, and like to explore. They may sit with you for a short while, but eventually they want to get down, walk around, and look things over.
