I had talked to John about this, and now I will ask you,I need a handicapped rock for my disabled chuckwalla Hooty. Shes walks on her wrists and scoots on her back legs kinda, anyway, she wants to act like a chuck and climb. I use slate and kind ramp it up so she can just go up on a very slight slant to bask. It also has to be somewhat smooth as not to cut up her wrist skin as she walks. Can something be made like that out of these rocks? I think you did a great job, it looks fantastic and very natural also. I will email you about it! GREAT JOB, Eve

...has a bit more 'sanded' texture than may be good for the chuck. This material is a "wall and floor" type sanded grout, and I "flung" some more sand onto it before it set up to give it more of the red sandstone texture I was after. Its a very white creamy sort of mixture before you add any colors to it, and seems like it could be smoothed out enough for what you need. I first tried the terra cotta dye, and it comes out the exact repulsive fake pink that we all have cringed over "as seen on the heat rocks" LOL. I mixed about 1/3 of the "buff" dye with it to cut back on the pinkish tones, and it worked out a bit better. I plan on playing in the mud some more this weekend if I get a chance, I'll see how smooth I can drag the mixture out.

forgot to mention that he's looking great! You should get some very nice yellowheads this spring. I hope to also.
As far at the rock, yes I would appreciate it, if you could test out the smoothness aspect, and let me know. Maybe I will try and create soemthing for her, or maybe hire you, LOL talk about it on the blue phone some time soon, Thanks Don.

johne Oct 18, 2003 05:22 PM

you need some work on the artificial sprigs of plant life LOL. The rock looks fantastic. I also feel filter sand spinkled here and there would have sold the effect better LOL

Good work!

John

...of a used aquarium I bought. Guess I'll put them back LOL. I said it was an experiment! I am trying out some formed-in "sockets" to hold some small cactus and succulents. The THEORY is, when the live plants get totally beaten to polio, I can unplug them from the socket and replace them with a new victim from a duplicate pot, while the other tries to forget its abuse and recover. I have one socket on the other side of fakerock 1.0 with its cactus installed, (out of the picture) and another small one that escaped the implantation of an aquatic hand-me-down sprig LOL.
