Hmm, for a begginer if you got a little tank (10-30)I would suggest a leopard gecko. if you have got a 30 I would say a bearded dragon both are great and good about being handeled as they get older

Leopard geckos look neat..Do their big dumb tails fall off and if so, how easily? I had smaller geckos once but man those things hated being held. Way too skittish. I sold them off to a local pet store.

Leopards don't lose their tails easily if you get one that's already tame and you're gentle. They're a lot better at being handled than most of your smaller geckos. Crested geckos are another cool species. Their tails never grow back though. I'd be careful getting a leopard at a pet store, 75% of the ones I see at chain stores are sick. Ditto for beardies.

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

How about species such as Swifts, Basilisks, and water dragons?

Jarofflies Oct 18, 2003 08:17 PM

Well swifts are alright they don't really like to be handled though but they tame up pretty easily and are really hardy.. 20 gallon would be good for them... Basilisks are a bit pickier and they need atleast 65 gallon tanks and require a humid rainforest vivarium with a pool of water so they can swim... Water dragons are cool they are hardier then the basilisk but need the same amount of space and environment. what i like are platted lizards they need a 65 gallon tank but they tame really easily and are very hardy... i also like armadillo lizards they need less space and don't even need a uvb light just plenty of heat...

blue tougued skinks, madagascar iguanas, bearded dragon, leopard gecko blue tounged skinks get 30 inches and have a insect diet, madagascar iguanas get 14 inches and eat veggies and can be housed in a 20 gallon, bearded dragons are omivours eating both animal and plant matter.

Leopard geckos are insectvouros eating only insects(that are alive)And 1 single leo can be housed in a 10gallon or a large shoebox.

Blue touged skinks come from austraila...So i think they should have a woods type of house right?

Madagascar iguanas are tropical needing plants in the home...

Bearede dragons are desert type...needing a 50 gallon house no smaller it would be a unhappy beardie.
