advice on feeding hatchlings...

kingofrain21 May 28, 2003 04:17 PM

i am expecting 20 eggs to hatch in about 3 weeks... my dilemma is that i do not breed mice, and will most likely be keeping these hatchlings for at least 2 months... i am considering ordering a few hundred pinkies for these guys from rodentpro, but don't want to make the mistake of buying all these pinkies if i can't get the little guys to eat frozen thawed ----
the daddy eats like a horse anytime (during shed and all)
the mother eats great also (occasionally will not during blue eyed stage though)--they both eat frozen thawed....

any advice is appreciated, and what has all of your experiences been with getting hatchlings to eat frozen thawed?

This isn't from experience, but I've heard that a lot of them will start off with frozen thawed right out of the egg.

If I were you, I'd start my own mouse colony, that way if they dont eat f/t you can supply live. But if you don't want to do that, you could buy a bunch of frozen mice but not as many as you were previously planning and also find a local mouse breeder that you could go to to get live pinkies from if needed.

If you do end up with too many frozen mice, and you are selling the snakes locally, you could sell some of the surplus mice with the snakes. This would be an extra bonus for the new snake owner because then they wouldn't have to find a place to buy their first supply of mice.
