do leos get bored of crickets?

jenni270986 May 28, 2003 04:25 PM

ive had my leo for about 4-5 months now and shes eating really well (a right little fatty, will post some pics wen i get round to it) but lately she seems to be getting a bit fed up with crickets. I have got her some waxworms and she loves them but i read somewhere that they cant eat too many cuz it upsets their calcium intake cuz they have alot of phosphorus in em. she like mealies too but thing is they turn to bugs quick. i keep em in the fridge n everythin but theres just too many! whats the ,maximum number of mealies they can have a day (whithout them becoming obese? and is there any other food stuff i can try her with so she doesn't get bored? (i dont think shes big enough for pinkies shes only ten months old
cheers

I've had one of my males on cricks since I got him in november 2001. He has been eating them as a staple diet along with occasional mealieswax worms since then. I am trying to get him to switch to mealies as a staple diet with an occasional cricketwax-worm treat. Mealies are so much easier, less smelly, and quieter than cricks. Your leo may be getting tired of them so try to switch it up every now and then.

And sometimes it gets to the point where they will refuse a certain type of food if fed it day after day, so you have to give em variety. She probably loved those waxworms you gave her, but they're really fatty. Not sure about the calcium thing, but they're fattening and ADDICTING. You gecko will refuse anything except them if fed to many. For mealworms, not sure what you can do, just get enough so that she eats em before they turn into larvae. Another type of bug my gecko loves are SUPERWORMS. This will also solve your problem because they dont turn into larvae unless they're by themselves. Hope This Helps,
MaC
