sexing?

mcompton1973 May 28, 2003 04:39 PM

I know this is a question that has prob been asked a million times, but I did not see a good search feature on this page....so here I go again. How do you sex a ball? at what age? size etc? and how easy is it?

Also is there a difference in behavior/personality of male or female balls?

Thanks

Greetings:
The only 99% guaranteed way to sex a BP is by probing. You may be able to "pop" (evert) the hemipenes by manual manipulation but if you don't see hemipenes you still have to probe. Looking for oviductal openings is OFTEN misinterpreted.
Hatchlings can be probed from day one but you have to have a steady hand, which goes for probing any sized BP. You CANNOT sex a BP by spur size.
Behavioral diffs between the sexes is very subtle in young BP's. In adults it's still subtle because of individual diffs in personalities. SJM
