this is sullivans home. she seems to like the pellets for a substrate but, everytime they get wet they get all moldy and i have to clean her enclosure to often. what do you suggest for a good substrate that will also help her with the dry face?

Hi,

My big Sulley also had problems with dry skin when he was very little, and I tried everything to resolve it, until my vet told me that it was absolutely normal!!! Apparently they all go through a dry skin period at some point.

As far as the substrate goes, for sulley's substrate I always used newspaper, or paper towels in his enclosure, until he was big enough, to be living outside in the yard.

I hope this helps.

Whenever Teddy's head looks dry I take some warm water in a cup
and using my finger or thumb I just dab some onto his head. He
likes it and it (my opinion) gets him very used to having his
head petted. He arches his head up and strains to have it petted
which is funny when people are watching, they're so amazed at
how friendly he is. You can also (a little bit cause yours is still
tiny), get him used to petting his neck and legs, they usually
like having their neck rubbed.

The best substrate in my opinion is lizard litter kenaf plant
variety, which I also buy sold as "Life Mate" for small animals.
I used it when he was tiny and still do. Get away from the pellets
because in addition to being moldy, they offer poor traction
for walking and adequate leg muscle development. It's like
walking on a shifting surface constantly. Good pics. niki

thanks i'll try what you said.
sullivan has always let me pet his head and neck so i am sure this won't be a problem.
as for the substrate i'll get it right away, i want sullivan to grow up nice and healthy.
