Panacur -- Stocking Pet Medical Kit

Do any of you order panacur yourself to have on hand instead of purchasing from a vet? You can order it for $7.95 a tube. I don't know how much vets charge for it, but that seems a reasonable price. I haven't done this before, so I wonder if a vet will allow you to administer your own meds rather than having them do it in their office and charging you an arm and a leg for it. I know that the cat wormer that my vet charged me $10 a dose for can be purchased online for less than $10 a tube, about 1/5th of the price.

From what I have read at this forum, panacur is pretty safe for beardies. Do you know where to get it for $7.95 a tube? I would be interested in getting some also. And do you know how to calculate the dosage?

Here is a link to a site that sells it:

There are other sites as well. I have bought and used ivermectin myself without a vet visit. It is calculated by weight, and it is the same ingredient in advantage and other flea control medications. You can use it with any mammal (probably reptiles, too, but not sure so would check with vet first), and the indications for use are obvious like mites, ticks, fleas etc..With the panacur, since I am not familiar with dosage, I would take the animal to the vet, get the dosage from him or her, and use my own medication. The vets really charge you an astronomical amount for medications. It's the same thing that hospitals do when they charge you $10 for an aspirin tablet.

You can purchase almost any veterinary medication online. Many of them are nice to have in your medical kit in the event of an emergency with no veterinary care available.
