hi,
the sulfurs are not recognised as a subspecies. i think sulfurs are just a color morph, among many different salvator color morphs that occur naturally. their pattern and color reflect thier environment. my 4 sulfurs are similar in some ways, and different in others. the differences are mainly color intensity, some being cloudy, others high contrast, one being orangey, while another is olive green. they all lack the temporal stripe that all other salvators have, and seem to have same scale shapes. another thing is with age, 2 of my sulfurs faded most of the black color from thier back and tail, and another retained the dark stripes and background. lastly, the sulfurs that were imported in the early 90s are very different from recent imports. maybe a few different localities? i only know of 1 so far. i have pics of all 4 on my site to see what im talking about. the pic here is my youngest. she is the orangey colored one but its hard to tell under the shedding skin. -john
