Male carpet

Worldsocold Oct 18, 2003 07:08 PM

I have a 6 ft male coastal carpet. I have a few questions regarding him. He will attack anything that approaches him but if you hold his head for about 20 minutes he acts as if he was as tame as a burm, but the minute u leave the room and come back he tries killing you, does anyone have an idea why? ALso if i introduced a Female into his cage would he act the same to her? (he has only had frozen food in his cage for the last month other then my hands. Also i need to find a breeding size female if anyone on here has one or knows someone with one please contact me.

Thank you,
Pat malloy

It could be a few things. My first guess is that he's an aggressive feeder. Sounds like you feed in the cage...Sometimes Carpets start getting it into their heads that anything comming into their cage is food (wishful thinking!...) until proven otherwise. Another possibility is that he's just wild until he's in hand. There are carpets that are just that way. Either way he shouldn't be a danger to a female during breeding season. And as far as available females there are a few posted on Kingsnake Classifieds.

A note about the handleability of your male. If you want to start working on making him more handleable I suggest two things. Feed outside of the cage and handle him more often. It might take a month or so but his behavior should improve.

hope this helps,
Darci
