i have to keep all my reptiles outside from now on. my dad is helping me build a little "shed" for them. it has 5 plexiglass windows so they will have a good day/night schedule. i live in SoCal and it sometimes get's in the mid 50's at night here in the winter. if i have them on just 90 degree heat tape, will that be enough to keep them warm, or will i need to heat the shed up in the winter? i ask this because it's usually around 75 - 85 during the day, (or in summer 95 - 100, but they shed is in the shade, so it's still 75-85), and it'd be much easier to just use the heat tape. i really don't know, i would think that they would stay on the 90 side when it's cold like that, but i still don't know if the air is too cold. what do you think?

Well sit right down my wicked son
And let me tell you a story
About the boy who fell from glory
And how he was a wicked son

This ain't no holiday
But it always turns out this way
Here I am with my hand

He took his sister from his head
And then painted her on the sheets
And then rolled her up in grass and trees
And they kissed 'till they were dead

This ain't no holiday
But it always turns out this way
Here I am, with my hand

Well sit right down my evil son
And let me tell you a story
About the boy who fell from glory
And how he was a wicked son

unlless you use a small space heater to bring the ambient temps up to bout 75 even at night. and durring the summer you will have to turn off all heat sources and prolly have to get an ac to lower the ambient temps so they do not get too high

you are right Robin. I haven't taken the time to research exactly which regions of Pakistan leopard geckos are native to, but if you look up their weather right now there is a range from 42-91 degrees. Just taking a stab in the dark here, but I'm going to say that leopards in the wild burrow down in tunnels to maintain a warmer temp at night just after feeding and then sleep away the days in the same burrow to stay cool. So what it comes down to is this: You probably could keep them in the "shed" during the winter using heat tape as long as the hide is made from rock that will retain some heat. In the summer though it may get too hot and you will definately want to plug your heat tape into a thermostat so that it shuts off during the day.

Just my random thoughts on the matter,
Uriah

ok, i'll probably go for the small space heater, cos' the closest thing to a rock hide i can get is ceramic. i doubt a ceramic hide will retain heat. in the summer, if it gets too hot, i can bring them in the house for the few hours.
