I work in a pet store and Oct 15 our tree boa gave birth. She only had 6 young, I was expecting more since she was SO big, but thankfully all the babes are big and healthy healthy (and feisty).
The parents are "Garden" Tree Boas with the dark brown/black/white reticulated markings but the babies are totally different. Two have the garden colouration, one looks greeny yellow, one is mottled orange, one is pure orange with no reticulations and another is a deep red with black reticulations. I've been looking at pictures of tree boas on the internet and have been reading a bit. What would the correct name for them be; I'm a little fuzzy on the distinctions. Garden - Cooks - Amazon is there really even a difference?
I believe I know how to care for them properly but since I've never raised a baby boa from birth any tips to ensure a long and healthy life will be appreciated.
I'll be taking one of the babies home next week and plan to put him in a ten gallon tank (eventaully will be a 33gal tall) with a substrate of coco fibre, some bamboo and other branches for climbing, a 24 hour infrared heat lamp (I'm thinking 75Watt), a "Grow Stick" for ambient lighting, a small hide box and a big water dish. Does this sound OK?
Also I would like to know approx. how long until thier first shed?
I get questions like this all day at work and it can be trying at times so I'm sorry if I this has been asked before but I just want to do everything right.
Thankyou for any info.!
