I especially liked the ones where you got him to pose with different people.

He looks really happy and healthy. Just look at him sleeping with his legs all sprawled out. Nice set-up; I like how you got it to look even with the paper towels.

Melvin's probably a Tremper. They're the most common and the least expensive albino strain (certainly not the least attractive though!). I think you have to buy from a breeder if you want a Rainwater. If the friend who gave you Melvin bought him from a petstore, then he's most likely a Tremper.

I'll post a link of a page that I found useful for learning about morphs

Hi again xelda

I'm glad you like my new pictures. Yeah my younger cousin was soooo afraid to hold him, but once he got used to it- he decided that he too wants a leo!!! just like myself, his family is extending his house and he's getting a bigger room, so he wants to have a leo and he's already talking about breeding ours and selling!! he's funny

The picture with Melvin sprawled out and sleeping next to the log is my favorite picture I've only seen him do that twice, so I was lucky that I had my uncle's digital camera in my room when I 1st saw that! Thanks for the compliment about my set-up I used the brown paper towels... I just took 2 huge brown paper towel rolls from my work's bathroom hehe shhhh..

Thanks for the info about Melvin being a tremper. i think guy that I got Melvin from got it from bought him at a pet store. I started thinking that when I was looking for the cheapest humid hide (i wanted the upside down U driftwood) at petco, petsmart, and pet club ... and petco had this "leopard gecko starter kit" with the same tank items and other accessories that the guy gave me - one hide, shallow water dish rock, leopard gecko food bottle of fruit flies, manual of how to take care of them, sticky thermometer, etc - it's made by ZooMed So I'm taking your word about Melvin being a tremper... and thank you for the morph link! I'll be studying that for a while so I can train my eye like dave

hi xelda

i went to that site you showed me... i know a little bit more about the different types of morphs and how the leos will look from baby to adult

i'm still kinda lost about what tremper, vegas, rainwater, hypo, super-hypo, etc mean? the site said she listed pictures of 3 diff types of albinos, and i still dont understand the terminology hehe~

dang!

Some terms you hear will refer to the pattern while other terms will refer to the color. And then you get combinations of the two (like having a jungle albino, hypo tang, etc.)

Anyway, there are three different strains of albinos: Tremper, Rainwater, and Bell. They're named after the breeders that started those strains, but basically what makes them different is how they achieve the albinism. This makes them look different although Rainwaters can sometimes look like Trempers.

Hypo refers to the spotting on the back. If they're hypo, they have 10 spots or less. Super hypo means no spotting (which is still different from a patternless). And baldy means no spotting on the head.

HE IS GORGEOUS! i love albinos they are my favorite morph out of all the morphs.I also have an albino but she is alot younger. He seems active yet docile i like that.

x1angelbabyx Oct 19, 2003 12:56 PM

thanks leofreak!

yeah when he's in his tank, he just hangs out a lot and chills... but once you stick your hand in there - he'll climb on you and go all over the place. his favorite place to stay is on my shoulders and ends up going down my back

he's about 5 months old (that's what i was told). before i even got him i wanted a blizzard or a snow, but right when my brother and i picked him up, i thought he was the cutest thing he's such a sweetie and he's really adorable... especially when he looks straight at you with his little smile and his tiny eyes i love my melvin

how many leos do you have? are they all albino? i plan to get more leos in the future - which is funny to me because i only wanted one and didn't realize how addicting they were like many of the forum users say hehe

Those are some great pics! Looks like you have a very happy leo. I forget, is Melvin a Tremper or Vegas?

x1angelbabyx Oct 19, 2003 01:41 AM

i'm actually not sure
i'm still somewhat new to leos and am not sure about the different types and terminology... all i know is... melvin is albino.. hehe~

if someone knows, please inform me - i'm really interested to know... is there a website i can look at about the different morphs/types/patterns/designs etc? thanks!

It’s no problem. I like to see if my eye can detect the differences between the morphs. I’m going to guess he’s Vegas. Anyhow, like you said, Melvin is an albino. And I’ll add that he’s a handsome one too. Keep up your good work, and keep him smiling like that.
