Pacman frog one eye shut, keeps scratching

celgeofrog Oct 19, 2003 12:57 AM

My pacman has been scratching at his eyes for about a week or two, and I'm starting to get concerned. I have another pacman who's never done this, and I keep them both under the same conditions (substrate, heating, etc). Are his eyes just dry? Irritated? Infected? Thanks for your help.

Maybe he is just trying to shed? It sounds like he is quite dried out. I would mist him a few times a day with warm (dechlorinated) water from a clean, new spray bottle, making sure you don't make the substrate sopping wet while doing so. Sometimes they develop a thick outer skin if allowed to dry out, and he may be trying to shed this off. That, or maybe a piece of substrate is caught in its eye? If nothing improves in a few days, maybe a vet trip is needed.
