reversed light cycles with nocturnals

shopaholic Oct 19, 2003 01:32 AM

Hi Gang:

for your treefrogs or any frogs that are nocturnal, has anyone ever used a reverse light cycle so that one may watch them awake more. Has anyone expereinced any problems to the health of the frogs with this method?

thanks,

Maggie

reversed light cycles? You mean turning the light on at night, and off at day? Id think that would cause too much stress,

Or do you mean something different?

Yes, thats exactly what I mean. Its been done with others who experience too much heat in their frogs rooms during the day. What stress do you feel it would cause? I'm not doing it, I just want to know what possible problems there might be.

Thanks,

Maggie

If done properly it should not cause stress. I think it would be difficult to make it dark enough during the day for them to think it was night. You would need to keep them in a dark room, or cover their cage with something, which would make viewing difficult. Also the transition from a normal light cycle to a reverse cycle would have to be done slowly.

I see. That would make for a difficult viewing which would be the reason to reverse the light cycles. Thanks for the input!
