The age old question.... I'm sure if you searched these or any other forum, you'd find hundreds of posts giving dozens of reasons and testimonies for NOT keeping snakes together. Now, your question is a step above most people and their "Can I keep my corn and carpet python in the same tank?" questions because at least you are asking about the same species.
Here are a list of reasons why NOT to keep two ball pythons together...
- The spread of disease. If one snake needs to be treated for an ailment, now two need to be treated. If one snake regurgitates, how will you know which one it was?
- Snakes are solitary creatures. They don't need or enjoy having other snakes hanging around in their hides all day. In fact, it will probably stress them both out. And if you have two males they might even fight.
- Ball pythons can be tricky eaters from time to time and it won't help the situation any if they are stressed.
- Snake keepers often forget to ask themselves, "What does the SNAKE need and require?". Instead they just fantasize about keeping there pair of ball pythons in a screen top aquarium with Astroturf, a hot rock and a heat lamp.
There are more reasons but off the top of my head that's all I've got.
Anyway, if you can afford to buy and feed two ball pythons, you can afford to buy two enclosures. You might get advice from people who have kept 5 balls in the same tank for years and had no trouble but that's NOT the idea way to keep and enjoy a great snake.
