A friend of mine told me he has some breed of miniature monitors and he's going to give me a couple-does anyone have any idea what breed they might be? Thanks

Most likely one of the dwarf monitor species from Australia.
Did he say what type, either by scientific or common name?
Wish I had a friend like that!!

Are also known as Odatria. We are all wincing at the term "miniature monitors". These are not humanly manipulated to be bred to a smaller size, which is miniturizing. These monitors are just naturally a smaller size than other species.

I'll bet they are still 6 feet long in their world.

Commonly found ones are the ackies, V. acanthurus.
Kimberly Rock Monitors, V. glauerti
Storr's Monitors, V. storri
Timors, V. timorensis
Tristis, V. tristis tristis
Freckleds, V. tristis orientalis

There are others, but more limited in availability.
Try doing a search on these names, or just ask your friend for the common or scientific name and doing a search.
