Basics of a snake cage

herpfood Oct 19, 2003 01:09 PM

Hello all,
OK, I recentlty recieved my juvy common garter. His tank setup has changed from a more natural leaf litter, and earth, to now a substrate of aspen shavings.

SO in other words right now his tank setups like,so;
-ten gal
-aspen shavings substrate
-water dish( I have never seen him soaking, nor drinking should I be worried?)
-and medium sized flat slate stone, thats held up( That he enjoys hiding under here)

What else should I add to the tank? More hiding places? Can I use a small box with a hole?

THanks for the help,
Steven

Congrats on your garter! When you say that the flat slate rock is "held up", what do you mean? Because snakes like to hide under such rocks, be sure that it is secure so that it will not fall on your little one and crush him/her.
Regards,
althea
