lights

yeagermeister111 Oct 19, 2003 01:59 PM

I was playing around at Home Depot the other day and found some pretty decent lights there for a good price. I keep a handful of species of Phelsuma and these Daylight Deluxe bulbs are one of the nicer ones, by far the best I've found for the price. They're under $6 USD for 2 bulbs.
best,
Justin

Stongly suggest getting the book by the folks at Leapin Lizards, Day geckos in Captivity. It's great with lots of info on this subject. Living Art Publishers, a sponser of this site, sells it. Get It Read It.
And no I don't receve any kickbacks.

Day geckos do need UV. I would recommend around 3-5% UBV and no less than 15% UVA. If the bulb suffices those requirements chances are it will work, but most bulbs do not. There are other aspects to the bulb as well so a nice spectrum graph would be nice too.

I do have their book, and it is very good. These lights meet the requirements that most have agreed on (on a phelsuma forum) the best that you can do for the money. These are not the only bulbs I use-- there are heat spot lights as well as higher UV bulbs. I also supplement accordingly like Leann and Greg do so UV isn't as much of an issue.

Their mix:
2 pts Repcal w/ D3
1 pt herptivite
With this they say no UV bulbs are needed.
Best,
Justin
