New. Questions and a situation.

I was at a reptile show with some friends last week, and I ended up buying a juvenile uromastyx. The problem is, I'm on a road trip, so I have to bring her around with me. Not even close to ideal, I know.

Currently she's in a 5-gallon tank (I know, I know) which is about 95 F on the hot side during the day, and 80 on the cool side. 35% humidity. I know, really not at all ideal, but I hope close enough to keep her at least alive for the next month, until I can get her home.

Thing is, the first week or so she ate a ton (mostly sprouts, and bird seed), was skittish but fond of climbing and just generally very active. The day I was driving from Michigan (where I bought her) to Ohio (where I am now), she ate even while in the car, had healthy feces, and remained active and "normal" (from what I've seen) all that day.

The next day (yesterday) she started spending more time in her hiding place, and not really eating at all. She's much the same today. I've picked her up twice, to check for anything externally wrong, and she actually held still, which is very odd for her. When she is outside of her hideaway, she stays perfectly, completely still, most of the time.

Is she brumating, or is something wrong? She hasn't eaten at all in two days, unless she's snacking on the seeds of her substrate a little.

I know I sound very irresponsible and immature for buying a pet while on the road, but she was just so beautiful, I couldn't resist. I've been doing my best to take care of her as much as I can, under the circumstances.

yeah i am not going to even start on the situation because it is just bad, and i dont see how you can even get a hot and cool side in a 5 gallon. I have trouble in a 10 gallon...hummmm, well about the feeding issue get her some calcium, that is pretty vital, and some good food for her like dandelion greens, turnip greens, bok choy, some collards, etc etc go to deerfernfarms.com for that. But yes she might not be eating alot since she is probably brumating but she should still be eating. Geez this isnt the best situation. How do you even has the lights and stuff for her while in a car? or is she at a hotel or something. If she is at a hotel why dont you dry off the tub totally and then put in some bathtowels at the bottom then a light etc. that would be way better plus they cant get out unless it is really low. also make sure you dont have any hides that can move if you have her in the car that could have squished her or something. But not a great idea i must say and i am not one to really start anyhting on the fourms. but she should stay ALIVE for a month.
Seriously good luck!!!

Your Uro is stressed. You know this apparantly (I know I know...) I would expect this Uro to behave in the same way until you get it in a cage that is of the right size and provide it some heat (more than 95 degrees, but you know that, right?) This lizard sounds like it's in for a little more turmoil before it finally settles down. Good luck...
