My new Saharans.

Hello everybody!

I have just added a trio (1:2) of U. geyri into my collection. These bred last year, and I am hoping to do the same soon. The male is about 13" long, and the females are about 11" and 10".

And about their temperaments, are they sweet?

HughHolman Oct 20, 2003 10:29 AM

They are fairly tame, but still a bit skittish, as I only got them on Saturday.

Helo-
This is a little off subject, but I was wondering if you had a picture of your Microlepis egyptian...been doing some research into the differences between the U.e.e. and U.e.m.
If you do have any pictures please let me know.
Your saharans are incredible!
Thanks,
Ed

Hello,

This is my adult female U. a. microlepis. I bought it from someone who didn't really know about Uromastyx. (couldn't tell me what species). You can tell that it is a microlepis, due to the light colouration, and, you can't see it in the picture, but her cheeks and sides are bright yellow. They also seem to have smaller 'spikes' along their sides, than the nominate form. I hope this is of some help.

Hugh.

Wow-
That is one of the better photos I have to date of the microlepis.
I concur with your finding abou the spikes as well.
The one that I used to have also had somewhat rounded spikes.
Thank you so much for the photo...
Ed

Hello,

The other Egyptian that I have, who is an a. aegyptius, is only about 10" long at the moment. I am waiting for him to get to adult size, so that I can properly compare him with the microlepis. He is so much smaller, but he already has sharper spikes along his sides then my 20" female microlepis.
I am still trying to find more of the microlepis and the aegyptius, but they are vwery hard to get hold of over here, in England.

Just let me know if you want anymore pictures.

Hugh

Hello-
Since the literature that currently exists out there is somewhat vague in the decription of the difference between the two, I would like to compile as much info as possible be able to differentiate the two. Most of what i have read really make the Microlepis appear as a regional variation of the parent species.
This has become my mission.
Most photos have been so hard to tell differences between the two to make any conclusions impossible.
The yellow of yours is quite pronounced.
The spike variation has never been discussed as far as the literature I have read. Maybe that is a telltale sign.
Any photos would be greatly appreciated.
