baby leo with backward leg

turtletel Oct 19, 2003 05:19 PM

I just hatched out a couple more baby leos and one of them has a wierd leg. Her back right leg is jointed back wards. It moves them opposite way it is supposed to. She can walk ok it just looks funny.

Both of her back legs are reverse-jointed and she can still walk fine? Odd... If you plan on keeping her I'd have her internals checked. More than likely if her legs are that badly screwed up something inside could be too, and they might not function correctly.

I've had this happen a couple of times with baby leos. I rigged a little splint with some masking tape to keep the leg bent in the proper direction (you'll have to remove and reapply with every shed). After about a month I removed the splint and the leg was fine. This method was successful in both cases. Neither of mine were fresh hatchlings, however, and I'm not sure how they hurt themselves but they never had any recurrence of the problem after the splinting.

She was small, both front feet pointed inwards, and she died within a few days
