Hello all,
As of snakes I own a juvy common garter snake.
Now right now his main foodsource is earthworms. With a pregnant guppie in his water dish ALWAYS!

Can anyine give me the basic defintion of scenting something, and how its done?

I've read these guys like to snack on frogs and salamnders(I own both ) , and I don't really plan on trecking through the highwater creek where I live to find frogs.

To make food more tempting could I take a like a worm, and wipe it on my japanese firebellied newt? Then attempt feeding it to my garter. I also have a firebellied toad, but I would assume there far too toxic. Not saying that a japanese firebellied newt isn't, but they would also get a taste of those toxins on the wild.

Help would be aprreciated,
Herpfood

Scenting is just what you say - wiping a desireable scent on some other kind of feeder. It is done when an animal is not eating. If your garter is eating, then there is no need. I wouldn't scent anything with a toxic animal. Most garters do just fine on fish. If it's eating worms, that should be o.k. Check for more help on the 'Garter Forum'.

Good Luck
