Newborn cagemates

Since they are not generally cannibalistic could 2 hatchlings be kept in the same 10 gallon tank? If so for how long? They are a male and female from seperate litters about 2 months old.
Thanks.

You said the keyword: 'generally'. It does happen.

That said, I kept my pair of bloodreds in the same tank until they were breedable (I'm not ready to breed them yet), then I put my normal male in with the blood male, and separated the female. So far -- no problems with either arrangement. Except one thing -- feed them separately, and make sure that when you put them back together, they do not have any mouse blood or pee on them, or they will bite each other.

So, yeah, it can be done. Just . . . be careful. If you can afford it, I still suggest separate enclosures. It makes cleanup easier. I hate cleaning a cage of one snake's poop, only to have the other one go literally ten minutes after I put them both back in. Infuriating!

LOL, I have that same "poop problem" only with my cats! EVERY SINGLE TIME I clean the litter box! They usually wait till i've just finished and pushed the box back, but occasionally one will jump in the box before I even get it pushed back into place!

My cats do that, too. Sometimes they fight over who gets first poop. Then the other one kicks out half the litter trying to get rid of what cat #1 just did. Arrrgh!

I typically try to keep my snakes in separate enclosures unless I'm putting together a pair for breeding but I do have exceptions to that general rule. Right now I have 3 juvenile boas housed together in a 40 gallon breeder tank with basking and hide spaces for all 3 snakes. With the pair of hatchling corns I got last year, because they were so tiny, I kept the pair together for most of their first year in a single Sterlite tub and separated them out earlier this year. Feeding must be done in separate containers and you have to be careful once you put them back together to make sure they don't try to strike or constrict each other. It's always possible for one to try to eat the other when housing them together even if that's the exception to the rule rather than the norm. For what it's worth, I'd recommend setting them each up individually in a small tub/container. It's easier for cleaning and feeding, and you don't have to worry if someone is going to eat their cagemate.
