Hi John Henry,

I have a male bells hingeback named Rover. He is the coolest tortoise in the world. What kind do you have?

A word of warning. Almost any adult hingeback, or even some at the 4" size, are 99% likely wild-caught. It will cast you $ to have fecals done, deworming meds, and possibly supportive care for dehydration and other problems from one purchased from a pet store or reptile show. If you can find a breeder willing to sell juveniles, which are few and far between, then I'd go that route. But buying one from a pet store or dealer will only encourage wild-caught imports.

Bell's hingebacks are the most expensive, because they are not allowed to be imported into the US any longer.

The grassland type are the best. If you get fresh imports that have good weight they readily adapt and have personalities that can blow you away.
The forest type can be as out going but you can rarely find them in any good shape as imports.
These would be a very special project because of their difficulty to acclimate and they are basically worthless so it would have to be a labor of love.

"it would have to be a labor of love."

Why else would we be doing it?
