Hello,

I currently own a normal phase bullsnake, and I have a question regarding mites. Recently, I have noticed very small brownish insects on a piece of driftwood in the terrarium that look a bit like lice. My snake does not show any stress symptoms of having mites (soaking constantly etc.) and I have not noticed any of these on his head or body. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Eric

Don't get too alarmed, from your description I can't really tell if they are mites or not. Being on the substrate makes them sound like carrion flies on feces or something like that. In either case the treat ment would be the same. Clean the cage, spray the entire cage with a product like Pro-vent-a-mite and repeat in about 10 days. If they are mites you will notice small white specs on the skin and will be able to see little black seeds under the chin and between scales etc.

Good Luck,
