Colors in my dragon

svt-sinister Oct 20, 2003 08:22 AM

How can i get the best possible colors from my dragon? What am i doing wrong? My basking spot is at 112.8 F (to high?) I have 2 dragons in a 4x2x2 cage. Any pointers or do i just have to wait till their adults. Their 4 1/2 months old.

What colours a dragon shows depends on several factors, the big one being genetics. If their parents don't show alot of colour, yours may not at all. Then again, there have been surprises before with plain looking dragon babies growing up into brilliant colours.

The only things you can do to enchance colour is more UVB light and natural sunlight. Adding carrots and other caratine (sp?) containing vegetables MAY help enchance natural colour in a dragon, just serve carrtos sparingly, maybe once or twice a week as they can lead to runny stole.

Typically dragons show the most colour right after a shed, especially if they are 'fired up' by being put under direct sunlight (assuming the air temperature is warm enough to be comfortable for the dragon, at least 80F).

Your last question, the temps you have in your enclosure for basking are fine. Temperature plays no part in the colour of your dragon except in one aspect. Dragons darken their colour inorder to better absorb heat and lighten it when warm. However this won't make a normal phase dragon look like a sandfire or any other colour morph.
