Sleeping Chameleons...

SaveFerris Oct 20, 2003 09:56 AM

Ok my chameleon goes to bed around 8pm (her light is automatic 8am to 8pm) and her cage is in my room. Well *I* dont go to bed at 8.

How hard do chameleons sleep? Does the glow from my monitor keep her up? What about a little music? They dont hear to good right?

Basically i want to keep from bugging the heck out of my chameleon by staying up later than she is. Do you think she minds?

They actually do have ears but they are holes just below the skin and they can hear a very limited range - so play whatever you like! I sometimes go into my herp room, which is also my office, and put on my red light to spy on my geckos. Luna almost always wakes up.

If I will be on my computer past their bedtime I simply put towels over everyone's enclosure. This helps maintain a little warmth and humidity, too. I take it off when I leave the room so they don't interfere when the lights come on in the morning.

If they fall asleep with the other light source in the room, they will probably just stick their head under a leaf to get away from it. I have a problem with remebering to turn off my bedroom light before I go out. When i get home i'll find my panther with her head stuck under a bunch of leaves andjust her bum sticking out.
If the light is turned on after they are asleep they will likely wake up if it comes in contact with them. If I have to turn my light on my panther usually just gives me a dirty lookthen finds a new spot if I don't turn it out.
I think it willonly keep them up if they can't find a dark place to be in their cage. If you know it will be on you are probably better off leaving it or some kind of light on in the room before their lights go out, then when they go to sleep they will find a dark place right away, ratherthan having to relocate later on.

If it is dark outside and I leave the UV light on, it seems my baby veiled will stay awake. When I turn off the UV light and leave the regular room light on, she seems to fall asleep within 10 min. without finding a dark place to sleep in.
