flourecent fixture overheating

evan15342 Feb 08, 2003 03:47 PM

My new enclosure is finally on-line. The little girl seems almost lost in there. Pictures are forthcoming. After everything got warmed up, the flourecent fixtures started randomly turning off for 10-15 min. then coming back on. I'm guessing that the tranformer in them is overheating. The top of the enclosure is pretty hot, and the transformers generate a fair amount of heat by themselves. I tried unplugging the hole at the top where the wires run in. This seemed to help a little, but occasionally one of the fixtures will cut out for a while. Has anyone else experianced this? Any sugestions? Thanks.

It must be really hot up there- I presume you're using fixtures with standard ballast, rather than the newer electronic ones. I have had probs with regular ones, especially if the cage is smaller. but usually only after at least several months of operation. check your wiring...Nick

Assemblies because they had a ceramic heat emmitter or heat light above them. The temp was 122 degrees causing the top to bow inwards but it never shut off. Id check the temps up there by and on the assembly with it on and see when it shuts off.
