Rainbow questions

rainboa Oct 20, 2003 01:11 PM

Posted this in wrong forum, thought i might get more info if i post it here:

I am about to purchase a mated pair of BRB's the store told me that the snakes are aprox 2 years old, but are already showing signs of mating. I was also told that they will probably breed next season. I have two questions:

1. Does that info sound accurate?
2. Is 399.99 a good price for these animals?

Any help would be appriciated.

Thank you,

Matt

Matt,
. I have never had BRBs breed before they were 2.5 years old. If these are just two years old now they probably will not be ready to breed this seaon. If they are much over two years old they may be old enough to breed this season. Size is as important as weight for successful breeding. Females need to be at least 3.5 pounds to safely reproduce. IMO that price is a good one if they are old enough and large enough to breed this season.

Thanks Jeff. The owner of the snales has told me that they should be ready to breed NEXT season, so I think his info sounds accurate. I'm picking them up this afternoon.

thank again,

Matt

I paid an 600 for my 3 or 4 year pair at a pet store.

Wow, I guess I got a good deal. I ended up paying 340.00 for the pair. I got a bit more info on the pair, the female is captive bread, almost 3 years old, and weighs about 2.5 pounds. The male is wild caught, weighs 3 pounds, and had been with the pet store for more than 9 months. I got them home on the 21st, and they both fed on the 22nd, so they seem to be happy and healthy. I'll post some pictures when I have a chance to take some.
