Question about Cham Safety--Lighting

SaveFerris Oct 20, 2003 01:25 PM

Im building a new setup for my cham (I'll post pics when im done) and im providing a 100w Powersun MVB.

I wont let my cham to get too close (vines get 9-10 inches away from bulb) BUT if she gets adventuresome, she COULD climb up the screen then upside down and get RIGHT under the bulb...!

How much of a chance is there that a cham would WANT to climb to RIGHT under a mercury vapor bulb???

I keep my MV lights about 1 inch from the screen and the biovine is about 2-3 inches from top of screen.

My cham LOVES to hang from the top of her screen. She even sleeps like that sometimes. If you don't have a fixture to hold the light off of the screen, you can use a bit more screen and staple it in as a second layer 3 or 4 inches down. If he goes right under the light and it is resting on the screen he will DEFINATELY get burned. I took the temps of that once, I can't remember what they were but they were WAY to high for a cham (I think like 200F or something crazy like that)
If your lamp has a clamp on it you can nail a piece of wood erect on your cage and clamp it to that. That's probably the easiest solution.
