Baby bearded not eating

redneck_honey Oct 20, 2003 03:55 PM

I have a baby bearded who was feed only crickets and now is not happy with me cause I feed more greens and pellets moistened. I'm weighing him and if he looses alot of weight I will put him back on more crickets. I don't have him on alot of crickets right now. Any ideas? any help would be really nice. ~Jennie~

Babies often don't eat greens and pellets, crickets are their goal in life. Your baby needs the protein to grow right now and in my opinion should have all he wants.

Baby BDs really need the vitamins that go along with baby crix. It's also important that you gut-load them and dust them at least every other feeding A DAY. Babies have to have lots of calcium because they are going to grow very fast. After about two or three months, when you start dusting crix only once every other day or so, you can start introducing leafy greens mixed with fruit and pellets to make their diet more interesting. Believe me, when they are that young, they like to focus on moving targets like small crix running around their cage, so it's good to keep them active and alert.

First thing that I would do is find out how many crickets the breeder was feeding him before you got him. The next thing I would do is buy a lot of crickets and start feeding him what he is use to.

The trick with the pellets is to introduce them slowly to the dragon. Give him a little time to figure out they are food. Rep-Cal web site suggest a 10 day transition period when changing to the pellets. Continue what the breeder was feeding him and then ease off the crickets in that time frame.
Good Luck,
Steve
